It’s an unfortunate part of modern gaming: People buy highly anticipated new consoles when supply is at its lowest and resell them for a profit on the second-hand market. This issue most recently plagued the PlayStation 5 launch.
When the Nintendo Switch was released in 2017, it was notoriously difficult to find, making resellers a major issue; people were buying the console to resell it at a higher than market rate. With the Switch 2 set to release later this year, Nintendo is doing everything it can to prevent that scenario from happening again.

Hype for the Switch 2 is at an all-time high, as Nintendo’s Switch sales are slowing down.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Rumored To Be Hitting Xbox and Switch 2 This Year
Final Fantasy 7 Remake is rumored to hit the Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, with FF7 Rebirth out on non-Sony consoles in 2026.
One thing that will help the Switch 2 achieve that goal is a strong software line-up at launch. There’s already confirmation of a new Mario Kart game when the Switch 2 releases, as well as the potential for a cross-platform release of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, similar to Breath of the Wild.
Beyond that, there are rumors of strong third-party support coming for the Switch 2, but we’ve seen that song and dance before. Nintendo’s release line-up has felt pretty barren over the past couple of years, with fans hopeful they’ll save the big guns for the Switch 2 later this year.
