Tanjiro Vs. Kyogai

Season 1, Episode 11

Tanjiro’s mission to the Tsuzumi mansion arc was a crucial step toward recovering Nezuko’s humanity. He had teamed up with a demon doctor, Tamayo, who specifically needed blood from one of the 12 kizuki to create a cure.

Hence, when Tanjiro was dispatched to investigate the presence of demons in this episode, there was much more at stake than just saving people’s lives. The demon in this arc, Kyogai, embeds tsuzumi drums in his body, each controlling the space around him and teleporting his opponents or victims.

Tanjiro also saved some civilians while fighting Kyogai, and, in the long run, he found a loophole around his demon art and killed him with splashing water flow.

Tanjiro And Nezuko Vs. Rui

Season 1, Episode 19

The mission on Mount Natagumo leaves Tanjiro and Nezuko in Rui’s web, a lower-rank demon. Rui was a demon obsessed with having a family, and he fabricated a familial structure to keep himself happy.

Tanjiro fought hard against Riu’s deadly blood demon art, and when he was in his most weakened state, Nezuko interfered and awakened her blood demon art to protect her brother. However, what makes this fight exceptional is that Rui’s idea of family is a dark mirror of what Tanjiro and Nezuko represent.

Riu believes that family is about obedience and submission and that pain is the only way to create loyalty. Hence, the fact that Tanjiro and Nezuko’s love is unconditional makes Rui more furious, and the realization that he cannot replicate it shatters him more than any blade could.

The Demon Slayer Vs. Muzan Kibutsuji

Season 4, Episode 8 (Hashira Training Arc)

The battle against Muzan at the end of the Hashira training arc is the moment that the Demon Slayer series has been building towards. When Muzan finally came for Kagaya Ubuyashiki, the head of the Demon Slayer Corps did the unthinkable and blew himself up with Muzan still inside.

When the explosion occurred, the demon slayers rushed to the spot and their fight against Muzan began. The fight had great intensity and is a make-or-break because it was about ending the demon curse that plagued humanity.

However, Muzan’s powerful regenerative abilities, with his seven hearts and five brains, made it impossible for the demon slayers to kill the demon king. The demon slayers decided to hold Muzan off until sunrise, but Muzan tricked all of them into an impregnable Infinity Castle filled with high-ranking demons.

Tanjiro, Nezuko, Genya, and Mitsuri Vs. Hatengu

Season 3, Episode 3 (Swordsmith Village Arc)

The hidden Swordsmith Village ought to be a safe haven from demons, but two upper-rank demons, Hatengu and Gyokko, infiltrated the village, and the quiet place of craftsmanship became a battlefield. Tanjiro, Nezuko, Genya, and the love hashira, Mitsuri, face Hatengu, but the demon’s ridiculous blood demon art makes him a formidable opponent.

Whenever a demon slayer strikes Hatengu, he splits into clones, each representing an emotion. In the long run, the love hashira fights against the demon clones to slow them down, while Tanjiro and others look for Hantengu’s real body.

Tengen Uzui, Tanjiro Vs. Gyutaro

Season 2, Episode 10 (Entertainment District Arc)

The Entertainment District arc puts the demon slayers against two demon siblings, Daki and Gyutaro. After a series of sword strikes and blood demon arts against one another, the demon slayers are down, and even the sound hashira, Tengen, collapsed due to a decapitated arm and the poison injected into his veins.

In this vein, the wounded Tanjiro had to step in and stop Gyutaro’s rampage. However, Tanjiro could not hold him off for long, and surprisingly, Tengen intervened and fought Gyutaro with one arm and poisoned blood.

There is something satisfying about a fight in which the quietest or simplest character in an anime shows off his skills in a fight. The mist hashira, Tokito, unleashed many devastating attacks with precision and activated his demon slayer mark during this fight.

As for Gyokko, his blood demon art attacks were eerie and morbid. The demon has an obsession with making artistic impressions, and he makes use of vase portals, fish summons, and poison needles while also morphing his body into grotesque forms.

The tension of the fight increased when Gyokko trapped Tokito in a vase-like water pool with needles all over his body. While Tokito was suffocating inside Gyokko’s demon art, he unleashed his mist-breathing second form to escape. Rengoku Vs. Akaza

Season 2, Episode 6 (Mugen Train)

Like many others, the mission in Mugen Train is to protect civilians and eliminate demons. The flame hashira, Rengoku boarded the train with Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu to investigate the disappearance of the people on the train.

They encounter Enmu, a lower-rank demon who traps passengers in dreams, but they eventually defeat him. However, another demon, Akaza, showed up; instantly, Rengoku knew that the new threat was far more powerful because he was an upper-rank demon.

The fight between Akaza and Rengoku was gruesome, as Akaza was knowledgeable about martial arts and had immense regenerative ability. During the fight, Akaza respected Rengoku’s zeal and offered him immortality instead of being a demon slayer.

Rengoku knew he was the last line of defense to protect Tanjiro and his peers, coupled with the people on the train, and he fought bravely until he could not. Rengoku’s final stand is emotional, and eventually Akaza runs away from the deadly consequences of sunset to demons.

The best fights in the Demon Slayer series would not be completed without Zenitsu’s exceptional thunder breathing technique against the spider demon son at Mount Natagumo. While most demon slayers fight with bravado, Zenitsu fights when his fear overwhelms him and he passes out.

Hence, typical Zenitsu fled for his life when he encountered the demon. Also, the demon was creepy, with the cruel power of injecting venom to manipulate, paralyze, and mutate his victims into spider-like creatures.

However, when Zenitsu became unconscious, the demon’s time was up. In a swift moment, Zenitsu beheaded him with his thunder breathing form. The animation of Zenitsu’s thunder breathing attacks, speed, and his great leap with the moon in the background was a beautiful sight, and it was a perfect ending to the fight.

Season 4, Episode 1 (Hashira Training Arc)

The opening scene of the Hashira Training Arc was a visual spectacle for fans because of the introduction of two hashiras that had never been seen in combat. Sanami and Obanai displayed exceptional wind and serpent breathing styles respectively.

Sanemi and Obanai were unstoppable, and even though the hordes of demons they faced were small fry, the moment still demonstrated the power of the duo. The fight did not last long in screen time because the demons vanished into the Infinity Castle.

The fight animation and choreography were sharp and impeccable, similar to many fights in the series. Most importantly, the episode demonstrated the abilities of the two hashiras.

Giyu Tomioka Vs. Tanjiro

Season 1, Episode 1

At the beginning of the series, when Tanjiro returns home, he finds his entire family slaughtered, except for his sister Nezuko, who is now a demon. Nezuko’s first instinct was to kill Tanjiro, but she fought the urge not to kill her brother.

At that moment, Giyu appeared and decided to kill Nezuko. However, Tanjiro fought bravely to defend her sister from the hashira, even though the fight was laughably one-sided.

In his desperation to save his sister, Tanjiro surprised Giyu with his great instinct and use of misdirection during the fight. Tanjiro’s fight against Giyu paid off because, in the end, Nezuko attacked Giyu not to feed on him but to protect her brother.

Hence, this marked the beginning of Tanjiro’s demon slayer journey to find a cure for her sister and a great start for the series by showing the close bond between the two siblings.
