The Bureau of Energy Efficiency has proposed to include small commercial vehicles with maximum weight not exceeding 3.5 tonne and commercial vehicles running on any fuel under the stricter fuel efficiency norms. This would bring commercial vehicles running on petrol and CNG also under the purview of the fuel efficiency norms. “A draft proposal has been prepared to develop future fuel efficiency norms for LDV, MDV & HDV category vehicles,” it said. Passenger cars or ‘M1’ category vehicles are regulated under CAFE standards, but light commercial vehicles (LCVs) remain unregulated.
