The camp-mates in Red Dead Redemption 2 are certainly a mixed bunch, but generally, most of them are very endearing in one way or another. In addition to their deep involvement in the game’s main story, they also have their own unique item fetch quests with various reasons behind them.
Whether it’s Bill’s Hair Pomade or Sadie’s Harmonica, there’s a pretty good reason to fulfill each of these requests.
Not only will you gain honor for most of them, camp-mates will also reward you with various useful items and upgrades.

Maybe Arthur deserves a second chance.
Though some of the items are pretty easy to find, others will require you to travel to very specific locations. Every member of the camp except Micah will have an item request, but they will trigger at random once you’ve started Chapter 2 and arrived at Horseshoe Overlook.
Abigail
|
Item: |
$5 |
|
Location: |
Arthur’s Savings |
Probably the easiest request to fulfill in the game is Abigail’s. Jack’s mother and John’s wife is one of the more tragic characters in the game, but this modest request should be quite easy to fulfill even very early in the game.
If you’re really that strapped for cash, there are several easy ways you can go about getting it. From hunting and selling pelts to winning poker games, or the more tried-and-trusted straight armed robbery. Abigail will be grateful for the money, but can’t offer anything in reward. However, you will still gain Honor for helping her.
Bill
|
Item: |
Hair Pomade |
|
Location: |
General Store |
Rather amusingly, one of the roughest men in the camp, Bill Williamson, will ask Arthur to go out and fetch him some Hair Pomade. Quite what the reason for this could be remains uncertain, but if you rifle through his letters in camp, you’ll learn that there’s a bit more to Bill than initially meets the eye.
Hair Pomade is a pretty common loot item and can be found by searching some enemy bodies and camps. The easiest way to acquire it for certain, though, is by heading to a General Store in the nearest town. Almost all the General Stores in the game will stock Hair Pomade as one of their basic items. In exchange for the Hair Pomade, Bill will reward you with Repeater Cartridges, a pretty good deal if you ask me.
Charles
|
Item: |
Moonshine |
|
Location: |
Fence Shop |
Unlike many of the other companions, Charles will actually tell you in advance what his item requests are for, and they can directly help Arthur by giving him access to new ammo types and weapon modifications.

Not just interactive entertainment, but all of entertainment.
The first item he will request is Moonshine, an illegal homemade alcohol which can be found commonly throughout Lemoyne. If you haven’t made it to Lemoyne yet, Fence Shops such as the one in Emerald Ranch will sell it. As a reward, Charles will teach you how to craft Fire Arrows.
Charles II
|
Item: |
Oleander |
|
Location: |
In nature, close to most rivers |
The second of Charles’ item requests is the deadly plant Oleander, which can be used as a poison on various weapons such as knives and arrows. However, you won’t be able to craft these without first learning from Charles.
Once you’ve already brought him some Moonshine, he will ask for Oleander the second time. This herb, although not the most common, can be reliably found in many places, particularly in meadows that are close to rivers and swamps. In exchange, Charles will teach you how to poison arrows and daggers.
Charles III
|
Item: |
Eagle Feather |
|
Location: |
Hunting |
The third and final of Charles’ item requests is the Eagle Feather. This one is slightly more difficult to obtain, and you’ll need to hunt an eagle in order to retrieve it.
Eagles can be found in many places throughout the game world, but the mountainous regions like Ambarino are usually a good bet. Lake Owanjila in particular is a known spawning location for them. Charles will give you a dose of Horse Reviver as a reward.
Dutch
|
Item: |
Pipe |
|
Location: |
Vetter’s Echo |
Rather predictably, the eccentric gang leader Dutch Van der Linde will not ask for any simple or commonly found item. No, instead he wants something very specific which can only be found in one location throughout the entire game.
Dutch’s pipe is not something you’re likely to stumble upon at random. To find it, you’ll need to head to the small cabin known as Vetter’s Echo, near Pronghorn Ranch and Little Creek River. Once inside the cabin, the pipe can be retrieved from the desk with the typewriter on top of it. Dutch will give you a pair of spurs in exchange.
Hosea
|
Item: |
Shrew in the Fog (Book) |
|
Location: |
Hagen Orchards |
The old camp veteran, Hosea, has a pretty unique request, but only on the condition that he sees you reading something during Chapter 2, 3 or 4. If he does spot you buried in a book, he will ask for the Shrew in the Fog novel the next time you interact with him.

This unique item is located in a fenced-off bungalow called Hagen Orchards and can be found directly beneath the ‘O’ in ‘Bayou’ on the world map. Inside the house, the book can be found on a coffee table in the main room. Just be careful of the guard, who won’t be pleased to see you looting the house. For this, Hosea will give you some Predator Bait.
Hosea II
|
Item: |
American Ginseng x2 |
|
Location: |
Common Herb |
Another request that Hosea will ask of Arthur at some point during Chapter 3 is two lots of American Ginseng. Although American Ginseng is a fairly common herb throughout the world of Red Dead Redemption 2, there are some spots where it’s easier to find than others.
The best places to look are in the wildlands around West Elizabeth and New Hanover, such as the outskirts of Valentine or Rhodes. They can be identified by their large, splayed leaves and small red flowerings. Hosea will give you a dose of Potent Medicine as a reward.
Jack
|
Item: |
Abigail’s Thimble |
|
Location: |
Common Loot After Quest Start |
In Chapter 2, after you’ve done the infamous fishing mission with Jack, he will approach you rather distressed and explain how he lost his mother’s thimble. Arthur will then agree to find another one to replace it.
There’s no two ways about this one — you’ll have to loot it from corpses. If you don’t want to be a complete psycho and massacre a whole town over a thimble, don’t worry — there’s a pretty high chance that you’ll be able to obtain one from enemies like O’Driscols or Lemoyne Raiders as you progress through the story. In exchange for the thimble, Jack will leave you a unique drawing by your camp bed.
Jack II
|
Item: |
Penny Dreadful Comic Book |
|
Location: |
Several |
Jack will also have a second request after the fishing quest. This time, he will ask for a Penny Dreadful Comic Book. Fortunately, there are several of these around the gameworld, so you can get one from various locations.

Rockstar’s greatest franchise isn’t their best-selling.
The first place to look is the small stone cabin in Osman Grove (East of Emerald Ranch) where a Penny Dreadful can be found on the nightstand. The second location is the shack at Clawson’s Rest (Northwest of Valentine). Additionally, a copy can be found on a table in the abandoned schoolhouse of Pleasance, one in Downes Ranch and one in the shack by Lake Don Julio. In exchange, Jack will give you a chocolate bar.
Javier
|
Item: |
Oleander |
|
Location: |
Common |
Once you’ve reached Chapter 2, Javier will have a request for you at random. His is one of the easier items in the game as he is simply looking for some Oleander.
Oleander is fairly common and can often be found by riverbanks such as those lining Kamassa River. They can be identified by their slender frame and pink flowering. In exhange for one Oleander plant, Javier will give you several Poisoned Throwing Knives.
Kieran
|
Item: |
Burdock Root x2 |
|
Location: |
Common |
Once you’ve saved Kieran and welcomed him into camp, he will remain pretty distant from everyone else and instead find his solace among the horses. After a while, he will call Arthur for his attention and request 2 lots of Burdock Root in order to make a poultice.
The Burdock Root can be found fairly commonly by riversides, such as near Window Rock and the banks of the Dakota River. You can identify Burdock Root by its slightly darker stem and leaves with purple flowering. In exchange for the two Burdock Roots, Kieran will give you a dose of homemade Horse Medicine.
Lenny
|
Item: |
Pocket Watch |
|
Location: |
Vetter’s Echo |
LENNY? Where are ya Lenny? Lenny wants a pocketwatch, but the mission will only become active in the evenings when he is talking around the campfire. Just listen out for his conversation with Uncle where he tells the story about his father and uncle.

The mission will show up in Arthur’s journal without Lenny specifically requesting it. The watch can be found on the desk in Vetter’s Echo, but be careful, a bear will sometimes spawn inside the shack and will demand a quick reaction. In exchange for the pocketwatch, Lenny will give Arthur some dynamite.
Mary-Beth
|
Item: |
Fountain Pen |
|
Location: |
Osman Grove |
One of the quieter members of the gang, Mary-Beth, will have a companion quest starting quite early in Chapter 2. If you see her by the ladies’ wagon writing in a book, approach her and greet her. During the conversation, Mary-Beth will quite casually imagine writing with a nice pen at a desk and feels this will improve the quality of her writing.
Arthur decides to take it into his own hands to find a special pen for her. To find the pen, head to Osman Grove, the small stone housing settlement to the east of Emerald Ranch. Inside, you’ll find several dead bodies, including one in a chair by a nightstand. Open the draw of the nightstand, and you will be able to retrieve the fountain pen from inside. As a reward for the mission, Mary-Beth will give Arthur a ring.
Molly
|
Item: |
Pocket Mirror |
|
Location: |
Martha’s Swain |
At some point during Chapter 3, after completing the mission “An Honest Mistake”, Molly will approach and start talking about her impending ‘bad luck’, having broken a pocket mirror.
To find the mirror, head to Martha’s Swain in the Grizzlies region of Ambarino and head inside the wooden cabin. Once inside, you’ll find the pocket mirror on top of a nightstand by the bed. In exchange for finding the mirror, Molly will give you a cigar.
Pearson
|
Item: |
Rabbit |
|
Location: |
Common |
From Chapter 2 onwards, Peason will sometimes give the special request for a rabbit to put in the camp stew. Unlike hunting for pelts, you can take the rabbit down with any weapon you like. Just bring the body back to Peason in exchange for a special nutritious stew next time you eat at camp.
Pearson II
|
Item: |
Naval Compass |
|
Location: |
Braithwaite Manor |
If you play poker with Pearson at the camp, there’s a chance he will mention his missing compass from his navy days. Arthur says he will keep an eye out for one, but this isn’t an item you’re likely to stumble upon at random.

To retrieve the naval compass, head to the small waterside shack with a pier in the grounds of Braithwaite Manor. It can be found just slightly to the north of the waterside gazebo where you meet Penelope Braithwaite. Inside, you’ll see a workbench with an oar on it. The compass can be found right here on the bench alongside a packet of Premium Cigarettes. In exchange for the compass, Pearson will gift you a bottle of Guarma Rum.
Sadie
|
Item: |
Harmonica |
|
Location: |
Granger’s Hoggery |
During the Chapter 3 mission, “Further Questions of Female Suffrage”, Sadie will mention to Arthur that she used to play the harmonica before her house was burned down. Arthur suggests that he might be able to get a replacement.
One of the easiest places to find a harmonica is at the small homestead of Granger’s Hoggery, where the legendary gunslinger Emmet Granger can be found. Inside the main wooden shack, you will find a bookshelf behind the door where the harmonica rests. In exchange for this, Sadie will give you some Gun Oil.
Sean
|
Item: |
Kentucky Bourbon |
|
Location: |
Common |
For the Irish wild cannon, Sean, you will need to approach him when he is making fire bottles around the camp. Usually, he can be found doing this in the afternoon between 12pm and 6pm. Unsurprisingly, he will request a bottle of booze — Kentucky Bourbon, specifically.
This is a relatively common drink which can often be found in general stores, random camps and houses, and occasionally on dead bodies, too. In return for the bourbon, Sean will give Arthur a Fire Bottle.
Miss Grimshaw
|
Item: |
Herbs |
|
Location: |
Common |
Susan has one of the simplest item requests in the game and also one of the easiest to trigger. At some point, she will ask Arthur to get some herbs in order to improve the flavour of Pearson’s stew.

She is not specific about which type, but 2x Oregano, 2x Creeping Thyme, or 2x Wild Mint will all do. In exchange, you will receive a Potent Miracle Tonic.
Tilly
|
Item: |
Necklace |
|
Location: |
Various Lockboxes |
If you see Tilly sitting around the camp and sewing, you can approach her to trigger her item request. First, you’ll need to play a game of dominoes with her in the camp, at which point she will mention losing her necklace in Blackwater.
Necklaces are a slightly rarer jewelry item and are most commonly found in lockboxes throughout the game world rather than on fallen enemies. Clearing gang hideouts and robbing trains or stagecoaches are the most reliable ways to spawn necklaces as potential loot. When you’ve found one and delivered it to Tilly, she will give you 2 Health Cures.
Uncle
|
Item: |
Medicinal Cream |
|
Location: |
Crafting |
Does Uncle have lumbago, by any chance? I hadn’t noticed. Either way, Uncle will randomly make an extensive list of requests in order to craft his own medicinal cream. The items you’ll need to find are as follows:
- Hair Pomade
- Kentucky Bourbon
- Peppermint
- Milkweed
- Skunk Meat
The Hair Pomade and Kentucky Bourbon can be reliably acquired through any town’s General Store, while Peppermint can be bought at stables as a horse provision. Milkweed can be found in the forests north of Bluewater Marsh, and Skunk Meat can be gained by killing skunks and storing them.
Don’t skin the skunks. You will need to turn in a whole one and deliver it before it spoils. Skunks can be reliably found near Ringneck Creek in Lemoyne as well as around the Beecher’s Hope ranch. The effort is well worth the reward, as uncle will give you a Drifter Hat, Classic Frock Coat, Frontier Vest, and Tornado Boots.
