    10 Best PSP Games Available on PS Plus

    The PSP was Sony’s bold step into the handheld gaming space and while the PS Vita felt like unloved hardware, the PSP was the golden child.




    There’s an impressive library of fantastic PSP games, and best of all, a decent selection is available on PS Plus, so you don’t need the console to enjoy them.

    If you’re wondering where to start, here are some of the best ways to get started.


    10 Tekken 6

    If You’re Bored With Heat and Rage Arts

    I’ve been a Tekken fan for as long as I can remember and was utterly blown away when I played Tekken 6 on the PSP for the first time.

    Despite a downgrade in visuals compared to the home version, Tekken 6 on the PSP looks and feels as good as ever.

    The entire roster is here, along with the complete command list. Tekkenonly uses four face buttons, so nothing was taken away while fitting it into a console with only two shoulder buttons.

    Tekken 6 kicks off our list because while it’s a great game and technically impressive, the home console version still exists. If you’ve got the choice, you’d play that instead.


    9 Ridge Racer 2

    Ridge Racer 2 is a sleek and stylish arcade racer that trades simulation steering for drifting.

    You’ll feel right at home if you’ve played the previous Ridge Racer games, and the title is fleshed out with dozens of courses and vehicles to unlock.

    If you’ve never played before, drifting is initiated by lightly tapping the break while steering, and the most skilled drivers can race around a course without ever really slowing down.

    Drifting is accessible but surprisingly nuanced in faster vehicles. The cars look and sound fantastic, with the sponsor decals referencing other Namco titles.

    Ridge Racer 2 was an excellent way to bring a racing game on the go and is decent enough to stand on its own merit at home.

    Gravity Crash Portable is the most simplistic game on this list, but don’t mistake simplicity for lacking in great gameplay.

    Gravity Crash Portable is similar to the classic Asteroids but with all the modern trimmings. You tour the galaxy while collecting gems, fighting enemy ships, and navigating perilous terrain.

    You’ll feel comfortable with the controls if you’ve played Asteroids before, but there are multiple options, each with pros and cons.


    On that note, a superb mechanic governs your ship’s shields. You can opt for manual shields, which replenish over time, but you must deploy them. On the flip side, you use automatic shields, but you could be in trouble once they are gone.

    Gravity Crash is a modern spin on the timeless classic, perfect for shorter gaming sessions.

    7 Ape Escape: On the Loose

    Put A Stop To All This Monkey Business

    Ape Escape is another beloved PlayStation IP that Sony has long forgotten. Fortunately, there are a couple of fantastic entries to the series in the PSP library on PS Plus.

    Ape Escape is an inspired 3D platformer where you must capture escaped apes. Who would have guessed?

    You have many different gadgets to play with, including a Stun Club and Monkey Radar, and each opens up unique gameplay opportunities. Beware, your targets are agile and can be downright frustrating to catch sometimes.


    Still, that’s part of the fun, and Ape Escape remains one of the most original 3D platforming series on the market. On the Loose is a remake of the original and a great place to dive into the series.

    6 LocoRoco

    Fun For All Ages

    LocoRoco is a charming puzzle platformer with a cute soundtrack and bright, colorful visuals that frequently enter fever-dream territory.

    You play as a colored blob on a quest to rescue your friends. Each time you find another blob, they can merge with you, and you’ll need to reach a quota before you’re allowed to leave each stage.

    The gimmick in LocoRoco is you don’t have complete control of your character. You can jump, but most of your movement is done by rocking the playfield with the shoulder buttons.


    This odd decision makes a lot of sense on the PSP console with its L and R paddles. Fortunately, it translates nicely to the PS5 and makes the title stand out compared to your typical 2D platformer.

    There are plenty of imaginative hazards and biomes to tackle and a fantastic sequel when you’re done with the original.

    5 Daxter

    It’s The Sidekick’s Turn To Play Hero

    There are a ton of top-tier platformers on the Sony PSP, and Daxter is among the best.

    Daxter is a spin-off of the massively popular Jak and Daxter games, and it finally gives Jak’s sidekick his turn in the spotlight.

    While the game is notably more compact than the home console titles, it’s a solid 3D platformer with a welcome serving of humor. The controls are tight and responsive, and Daxter can effortlessly zip around and even double jump.


    Daxter also has several weapons at his disposal. He can zap foes with an electric fly swatter. If you prefer the heavy-handed approach, why not pull out the flamethrower?

    Daxter’s solo adventure feels like an experience curated for the console instead of trying to squeeze a full Jak and Daxter game onto the system. You could argue that the original has never been beaten, but this spin-off still feels fresh and new.

    4 Secret Agent Clank

    We’ve already discussed Daxter and how his spin-off is a worthy entry in the Jak and Daxter series. Fortunately, the trend continues with Clank’s solo adventure.

    Clank is the adorable robot from Ratchet and Clank, who takes the starring role in the title. Ratchet has been accused of stealing a priceless item from a museum, and it’s up to Clank to clear his name while his sidekick is locked up on Prison Planet.


    There’s a generous helping of stealth sections to tie in with the ‘secret agent’ vibe and tons of cool gadgets to play with. The latter is to be expected of a series known for its imaginative weapons. There are playable sections with Ratchet and Quark, but make no mistake, this is Clank’s time to shine.

    Much like Daxter, Secret Agent Clank is a more compact experience than the mainline Ratchet and Clank games, to its benefit. The game doesn’t feel like a ‘poor man’s version’ and can absolutely be enjoyed alongside its home console brethren.

    3 Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow

    One Of Gabe’s Finest Outings

    The Syphon Filter games are tense third-person adventures, and both of Logan’s adventures on the PSP are worth your time.


    Logan’s Shadow spins an engaging espionage story where the villains always seem just one step ahead of our hero. You play as Gabe Logan, a special forces agent tasked with taking down a terrorist leader. The plot is grounded in reality, as are many of the weapons and equipment options.

    While not strictly a stealth game, Logan’s Shadow rewards players who don’t rush in guns blazing. There’s a cover system so you can blind fire around corners and a solid melee combat system should you get close enough to use your fists.

    The graphics are incredible for the plucky handheld, even though they won’t seem special on a big screen. The PSP was always marketed as a PlayStation on the go, and titles like this really prove that the console could do it.

    Dark Mirror is another fine PSP Syphon Filter game, although Logan’s Shadow inches it out, in my opinion.

    2 Pursuit Force

    Pursuit Force is easily one of my favorite PSP games. It’s ridiculous, hi-octane, and has a steep difficulty curve.

    You play as a police officer and take on several different gangs, each with a unique flavor. Unfortunately for the bad guys, you’re basically a stuntman. Most of the gameplay occurs behind the wheel, but you can shoot from your car and even jump to enemy vehicles and take control of their ride.

    As you progress, more dangerous gangs enter the fray, and there’s never a dull moment. There are even on-foot sections where you walk around compounds, eliminating threats. Pursuit Force is fun but relentlessly difficult.

    There’s an unforgiving timer, and you’re forced to play flawlessly on the later levels. Still, it’s hard not to appreciate the spectacle or enjoy leaping between traffic and taking down an army alone.

    1 Jeanne D’Arc

    For The Strategists

    Jeanne D’Arc is a superb Tactical JRPG with gorgeous cut-scenes and a deep, addictive combat system.

    As the name may suggest, the story of Jeanna D’Arc is very loosely based on the struggles of Joan of Arc. Don’t fret; you don’t need to have any interest in history to enjoy the tale, but you will appreciate the narrative even more if you do.

    The most important part of any decent tactical RPG is the combat, and it’s excellent in Jeanne D’Arc. Battles occur in beautiful gridded areas that offer plenty of space to flex your strategic muscle.

    Despite the nods to history, there are magic and mythical creatures galore, and you’ll want to learn everything about the intriguing world.
