Prey 2 was a highly anticipated sci-fi bounty hunter game being developed by Human Head Studios, but the project was unfortunately cancelled, and fans are still heartbroken about it. Aside from its impressive reveal trailer that dropped in 2011, some demo footage, and a few leaks over the last decade, the game has remained largely a mystery, but there may be a glimmer of hope for revival.

A recent post on X appears to show five minutes of gameplay footage from Prey 2 that was originally posted anonymously to the Duke4 gaming forum. The gameplay leak gives gamers a glimpse of the tutorial of Prey 2, as the player is seen learning how to parkour, scan clues, and take cover when under fire from alien thugs.

While the original Prey garnered a lot of love and currently boasts a very positive review rating on Steam, Prey 2 had the potential to outshine its predecessor in a massive way, as gamers would have taken the role of alien bounty-hunter U.S. Marshall Killian Samuels in an intriguing new storyline. The newly leaked tutorial gameplay looks pretty impressive for a game that was being developed over a decade ago.

There are several reasons why a video game could be canceled. Most commonly, it’s due to financial reasons of one kind or another, but in the case of Prey 2, former Bethesda Vice President Pete Hines said it just didn’t meet their quality standards.

In a recent interview with DBLTAP, Pete Hines revealed he was not at all on board with calling the original game Prey, because he felt the team would end up wasting valuable time explaining why it was called Prey when they could be using that time to work on the game.

“I definitely pissed some people off internally over that because I fought so hard against using that name,” said Hines.

The hype train for Prey 2 had left the station, and dreams were crushed when the game was derailed. One fan wrote a heart-wrenching post in the comment section of the Prey 2 trailer to give the game a proper goodbye. “Rest now, oh sweet prince. May you find peace within the graveyard of cancelled bounty hunter-based games.”

With new gameplay beginning to surface, some fans are left to wonder if a build of Prey 2 could potentially exist and be brought back to life.
