Almost every single Nightlord in Elden Ring Nightreign is a true test, boasting a range of devastating moves and qualities that can push players to their limits. A particular Nightlord boss fight that takes to that statement to the max is Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow.
He’s a massive centaur who is challenged at the end of the Darkdrift Knight expedition. This Nightlord is notorious for having one of the most aggressive movesets with a second phase that can brutalize you with a barrage of AOE attacks.

Recommended Team Composition
Ultimately, you can always choose any character that you know the best to play, but be that as it may, having an optimal team comp for this fight is useful since some characters simply work better than others. Trust me, I did this fight on numerous occasions during hundreds of hours in the game.
- Raider: Since we’re going against an aggressive Nightlord boss, having Raider in this fight could be a fantastic choice. His character skill can help you negate damage and possibly stun Fulghor on some occasions. He can Powerstance easily with his mighty strength weapons, and that Ultimate Art is both a lifesaver and boosts your squad’s attack power.
- Wylder: The ‘Jack of Trades but Master of None’ character. The reason why he’s a vital character to this comp is mainly because a skilled Wylder player can easily stagger Fulghor with a Raider on top of him. There are also plenty of Lightning weapons that you can find to help target the weakness. Unless you’re unable to interrupt it via his weaknesses, Wylder’s Ultimate Art is key to immobilizing one of Fulghor’s most dangerous attacks.
- Ironeye: He’s one of my main characters, alongside Raider. Having at least one ranged character is vital since you’ll sometimes need to take the aggro off your teammates or help dish out damage from afar. Ironeye’s Marking Shot skill will also be able to pop off well with two beefy melee characters constantly dealing damage. Just like Wylder, his ultimate can also be used to interrupt that one specific attack in this fight.
Alternatively, you can also have an Executor here replacing one of the two melee characters, since you can proc bleed on Fulghor, and the beast transformation is great for reviving teammates when things turn south.

Weaknesses And Preparation
Bringing in a Nightlord’s weakness to the fight is crucial, and don’t ever let anyone else tell you otherwise. If we’re talking Fulghor in today’s boss fight guide, his primary weakness in Elden Ring: Nightreign is the Lightning affinity.
This affinity falls in the same vein of availability as Fire and Holy, since you can grab multiple lightning grease items and weapons at the appropriate locations throughout your run. If you’re bringing Wylder and Raider here, that’s even better due to their weapon variety on display in this game.
Both characters can access a plethora of melee armaments that can roll with a Lightning affinity or even Ashes of War that inflict that element. For Ironeye, the odds are slightly lower for this kind of bow, but you can bring a few Lightning greases to alleviate that problem.
I’d strongly advise against a Holy weapon since Fulghor actually resists that affinity. On the bright side, if you’ve got anything that can proc a status ailment like Scarlet Rot, Poison, or even Frostbite, that’ll work extremely well here.
Lastly, I strongly recommend being at least level 12+ for this fight since every single attack from Fulghor can hit hard, and you’ll want all the damage you can pump out for this fight to stagger this Nightlord. Unlike Libra, there’s no opposing status ailment that you need to worry about curing yourself.
How To Defeat Fulghor, Champion of Nightglow
Before I dive into the nitty-gritty of how you need to proceed through the boss fight itself, it’s imperative to understand the moveset and attacks of this Nightlord, which I’ve depicted below to give you an idea of each one.

Lance Side Sweep |
Fulghor will launch towards you, sweeping his lance across the ground. This attack is mainly used when you’re at a fair distance and can be easily telegraphed to dodge through it. |

Lance Ground Sweep |
This attack can be performed in variations from a single strike to three in a row. Fulghor will swipe his lance in front, launching a shockwave towards you, which can be easily evaded on time, as I’ve depicted in the video clip above. |

Lance Thrust |
An occasional move where Fulghor will thrust his lance at you. The hitbox is fairly lenient on this, as on most occasions, I was able to avoid this by quickly running out of the way. |

Golden Charge |
One of Fulghor’s deadliest attacks in the first phase. He’ll charge forward, leaving behind a golden trail that will explode momentarily. This action will be done three times in total before he stands his ground from afar and unleashes a final golden trail explosion, which can be easily dodged if far away from him. |

Diving Slam and Quick Slam |
There are two variations of his stomping AOE attacks. The first one is a diving slam where he’ll leap into the air before slamming down at your location, while the latter version is where he’ll lift his front legs to do a quick ground pound. Both of these attacks can be easily evaded due to their animation windups. |

Golden Lance Slam |
Fulghor will charge up his Lance before slamming it into the ground, causing anyone nearby to be slowed and unleashing golden lances from the ground to hit your squad. This is the attack I mentioned that can be interrupted with enough damage or by utilizing the Lightning weakness. |

Nightglow Aerial Strike |
An attack in the second phase, when Fulghor transforms into his dark, monstrous form. With this move, he’ll leap into the air and slam |

Nightglow Claw Sweeps and Slams |
Lastly, aside from that aerial attack from his Nightglow claw, Fulghor will use the claw to sweep around the area on several occasions, damaging anyone caught in its dark poison spew. |
First Phase
Ideally, if you’re running the comp I suggested, you’ll make the most out of this fight in the beginning. Have the Wylder and Raider players constantly maintain their damage on Fulghor here. If those two players can avoid most of his telegraphed attacks, then the first phase is in the bag.
For the Ironeye player, I strongly advise consistently applying the weakening mark at any chance you get, because the damage output from both the other two characters should be enough to activate the mark and momentarily stun Fulghor for a brief second or two.
Remember, status ailment effects such as Scarlet Rot and Frostbite will also work greatly to inflict additional passive damage.
Chances are that Fulghor might aggro the Ironeye or whatever ranged character is in your squad, so try to play it safe, conserve your stamina, and watch out for any of his aggressive yet readable attacks. That Golden Charge attack chain is by far the most dangerous attack here, so try to evade it promptly.
Lastly, I can’t reiterate enough how that lightning affinity weakness is crucial here—interrupting that Golden Lance Slam attack shown above can make a world of difference, because if it does go through, there’s a high chance that you or your teammates will get hit by it unless miraculously saved by dodge rolling through it.
Second Phase
Like any other Nightlord, the second phase comprises relatively the same moveset as before, with the exception that Fulghor will now summon forth his massive Darkglow claw, a transformation that almost reminded me of Iudex Gundyr’s second phase from Dark Souls III.
The strategy is the same as before, expect for that one massive attack where Fulghor will slam his Darkclaw into the ground after leaping in the air. If evaded successfully, you can easily punish Fulghor since he’ll momentarily recover after doing this slam.
The rest of the sweeping attacks from this phase can be a bit tricky to dodge due to their erratic pattern, but as long as his aggro is maintained on someone else for a brief period, that’s your cue to lay on the damage, especially if you have Ultimate Arts charged up.
It’s a bout that can be annoying with Fulghor’s aggressive moveset, but again, the key to making this entire fight go by smoothly is prepping the lightning weaknesses beforehand. If all three of you can hit Fulghor with his weakness consistently, insta-staggering this bossfight is a breeze.
