FromSoftware revealed new details about Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition (as spotted by Famitsu), which include two new character classes for players to select when they boot up a new game. These are the Knight of Ides and the Heavy Knight.
Elden Ring’s Tarnished Edition Is Adding New Character Classes
The player selects a character base at the beginning of Elden Ring, each of which has a starting level, stats, equipment, spells, and items. The exception to this is the Wretch, who starts at level 1 and only has a club with which to defend themselves from the horrors of The Lands Between.
The exact details of the Knight of the Ides and the Heavy Knight are unknown, but they will likely be bulkier builds with strong defensive capabilities. It’s likely they’ll have instant access to some of the new content in the Tarnished Edition.
The choice of starting class in Elden Ring isn’t the be-all and end-all, as it’s possible to create a hybrid mixture of abilities, as well as respec the protagonist. It’s more about getting a solid head start with a specific playstyle.
Those who are struggling to get their hands on a Nintendo Switch 2 needn’t worry, as the content in the Tarnished Edition will also be coming to other platforms via a paid DLC pack. It’s currently unknown when Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition is launching, outside of 2025, but the Tarnished Pack DLC should launch alongside it.
