Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has a ton of side bosses, and while some are quite easy, there are plenty of challenging ones that can give the player a run for their money. One good example is Glaise, a mini-boss that can be found in the Yellow Forest.
Glaise is a hard-hitting enemy that can be pretty difficult to take down. However, if you’re far into the game and have powerful party members, then Glaise can go down in a few hits.

If you’re not overpowered yet and still want to defeat Glaise for his valuable rewards, then this guide is for you. Here’s how to beat Glaise in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
How To Prepare For Glaise In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Before we get into the fight with Glaise, it’s important to discuss how to prepare.
The right preparation includes choosing the best party members fit for this particular fight, equipping them with the right skills, and learning the attack pattern of the boss.
We have all of that information and then some in the following sections, so take a look.
Best Party Composition
The best party members for the Glaise boss fight in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 are Lune and Maelle. The third choice is up to you, although I recommend having your highest damage dealer or whoever is great at healing.

10 JRPG Bosses Harder than the Final Boss
JRPGs have some of the most iconic fights in gaming and while most are manageable, there are always a few in each game that give gamers chills.
Maelle and Lune are great choices due to their ability to apply Burn easily, a status effect that will deal additional damage after every turn. Additionally, Glaise is weak to Fire, so this will make the fight much more manageable and go by quicker.
Best Skills
As previously stated, we want to inflict Burn on Glaise as much as possible. In that case, it’s important to have Maelle equipped with her Rain of Fire and Combustion skills.
On the other hand, Lune should have skills that compliment her Stains mechanic. For example, Wildfire, Thermal Transfer, and Fire Rage work well together as they consume each other’s stains.

Attack Breakdown
Luckily, Glaise only has one phase. Still, each attack can be pretty challenging to parry or dodge, and getting hit by them can seriously drain your health bar. Unless, however, you’re at a very high level.
Let’s take a look at Glaise’s attack patterns and the best course of action to deal with each attack.
|
Attack Indicator |
Description |
Action |
|
“Glaise Attacks” |
Glaise lunges forward and raises his fists into the air. He then slams the fist into the ground. Glaise’s fists are in the air for about two seconds before he slams them down. |
Parry |
|
“Glaise pounds the ground.” |
Glaise slams the ground with his fist, sending waves of earth damage to the player. There are a total of three waves to avoid here, and each wave takes about two seconds to reach the player. |
Parry |
|
“Glaise is preparing a powerful blow,” |
Glaise sticks out his chest and lets out a scream. |
Nothing, automatically the player’s turn. |
|
“Glaise creates earthquakes.” |
Glaise raises his fist and slams them down three times, creating an earthquake that targets all party members. The first two strikes are back to back, but the third one has a delay. |
Parry the first two attacks, wait a moment, and then parry the third. |
It’s important to note that Glaise doesn’t have any Gradient attacks, meaning you don’t have to worry about Gradient Counters.

It’s crazier when you think how just 30 people made this game.
If you want to play it safe here, then feel free to focus on dodging. However, it’s beneficial to try and get counter-attacks in through parrying, since those deal significant damage to Glaise and can make the fight go by quicker.
How To Beat Glaise
At the start of the Glaise boss fight, Glaise will have three shields attached to him. So, you should immediately get rid of those shields by shooting your gun at the boss three times.
Next, we want to focus on applying Burn to Glaise. This can be done either through Maelle’s Rain of Fire skill or Lune’s Wildfire skill. I recommend doing both, as we want to apply as much Burn as possible and they will stack.
Once Glaise has a high amount of Burn (try to reach 10), go ahead and use Maelle’s Combustion skill. This will consume all the Burn applied to Glaise and deal extra damage, significantly draining his health bar.

Should we call it Clairblivion?
When Glaise is inflicted with Burn, go ahead and use Lune’s Thermal Transfer skill to quickly gain 4 AP from the burning target. Use the same skill again to gain another Ice Stain.
Next, use Fire Rage to have her inflict Fire damage continuously for the next couple of turns.
Considering Thermal Transfer applies Ice Stain, and Fire Rage consumes Ice Stains, she will do more damage in this order. Additionally, Glaise is weak to Fire, so that’s another bonus.
Keep in mind that Fire Rage needs two Ice Stains to deal increased damage. That’s why it’s smart to use Thermal Transfer twice in a row.
Repeat the steps mentioned in this section, and you’ll overcome Glaise pretty quickly and come out victorious.
Glaise Boss Rewards
After defeating Glaise with the guidelines mentioned earlier, you’ll earn some valuable rewards for your effort. Take a look below.
- Energising Attack I Pictos: +1 AP on Base Attack
- Polished Chroma Catalyst: x3
Energising Attack is a good Pictos to have as it always ensures an easy way to get additional AP. Meanwhile, Polished Chroma Catalyst can help you upgrade your character’s weapons.
