Warzone Is Reportedly Bringing Back Verdansk Due To Success Of Fortnite OG

Highlights

  • Activision reportedly plans to bring back Call of Duty: Warzone’s first Battle Royale map, Verdansk, influenced by Fortnite OG’s success.
  • Verdansk’s return was delayed from December 2024 to early 2025 due to a massive pivot in late 2023, it has been claimed.
  • Epic Games’ Fortnite OG and Fortnite Reload have attracted millions of players, potentially prompting Activision to follow suit.

A new report has claimed that Activision will be bringing back Call of Duty: Warzone’s very first Battle Royale map, Verdansk, due to the massive popularity of Fortnite OG late last year.

According to Tom Henderson at InsiderGaming, the insider verified a recent leak that suggested Verdansk’s return had been internally delayed from December 2024 to early 2025. The anonymous source told Henderson that Verdansk was “never actually intended to return to Warzone” but there was a “massive pivot” in late 2023 due to the success of Fortnite OG.

Fortnite Publisher Shares Potential Release Window For iOS Return In EU

Both Fortnite and the Epic Games Store have been submitted to Apple for the required notarization process.

For those who might not be up to scratch on their Fortnite knowledge, Epic Games released a brand-new mode back in November 2023 known as Fortnite OG. This limited-time mode stuck around for about a month, allowing players to jump back into the game’s original map from Chapter 1. With each passing week came new updates that transitioned the map from Season 5 right up to Season X.

The throwback mode was a huge success for Epic Games. Just two days after Fortnite OG was released, the studio confirmed that it attracted over 44.7 million concurrent players, making it the biggest day in Fortnite’s history. Fans begged Epic to keep the mode around for a little longer, but the studio removed the mode in December and kept fans guessing as to whether or not it would ever return.

Now, over 6 months later, Epic Games has released Fortnite Reload. While the mode isn’t exactly the same of Fortnite OG, it does feature a brand-new map with classic points of interest and classic weapons from Chapter 1. Fortnite Reload also operates in a similar fashion to Warzone’s Resurgence mode, allowing for multiple respawns as long as your teammates are still alive.

With Epic Games continuing to reap the success from Fortnite OG and now Fortnite Reload, it looks like Activision wants to get a taste of that monumental success, as rumours of Verdansk’s return continue to swirl.

The most recent rumour originated from a leaker known as BobNetworkUK, who not only leaked a new Resurgence map for the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, but also claimed that Verdansk wouldn’t be arriving until 2025. More on the story right here.
