The Full Release Of This Prop Hunt Game Has Players Swarming Back To Play It

Highlights

  • Midnight Ghost Hunt sees player surge post 1.0 release, surpassing 1,000 players on average, with a peak of 2,713.
  • Updates include revamped maps and improved AI for ghosts and hunters, enhancing gameplay experience.
  • Game is more enjoyable with friends, following the trend of party games like Prop Hunt in Garry’s Mod.

Midnight Ghost Hunt, a game inspired by the popular Garry’s Mod game mode Prop Hunt, has emerged from early access with a 1.0 release, bringing with it a new peak in players, according to SteamCharts.

Midnight Ghost Hunt was originally released in early access in March 2022 on Steam, and June 2023 on the Epic Games Store. On March 21, the full version of the game was officially released, with several updates.

The game went from an average of just 24 players in February to averaging over 1,000 players since the release of 1.0, with a new peak of 2,713 players. This was in no small part due to a free weekend the game hosted to celebrate the full release. The challenge for developer Vaulted Sky Games and publisher Coffee Stain Publishing (Goat Simulator) will be maintaining this player base.

Hide And Go Seek

The 1.0 update has overhauled every one of Midnight Ghost Hunt’s maps, changing the layout of each for more optimised gameplay. These adjustments include the addition of more walls and corners to give ghosts better opportunities to escape and more hiding spots.

Also added are weapon skins, profile pictures and improved artificial intelligence for both ghosts and hunters. The latter was a priority, as Vaulted Sky was cognisant of players who just wanted to play with a couple of friends, and needed competent AI to round out teams.

Recent reviews of the game have been mostly positive, albeit with a couple of critical ones. A few reviewers have commented that Midnight Ghost Hunt is “boring” or “frustrating.” Others are more positive, saying the game is super fun and a blast with friends.

Midnight Ghost Hunt First Person View

Everyone seems to agree that Midnight Ghost Hunt is more fun with friends, something that isn’t surprising considering it is a party game.

For those unfamiliar, Prop Hunt is a popular community game mode for Garry’s Mod, where one team (Ghosts) transform into ordinary objects and attempts to hide in plain sight while the opposing team (Hunters) try to find all of the Ghosts before the timer runs out.

Midnight Ghost Hunt is available on Steam and Epic Games, where it is currently 66% off on both platforms.
