Aspyr has released Update I for Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, but players might be disappointed to learn that the studio hasn’t released any substantial server fixes with the patch.

“We’re continuing to make server-side adjustments to improve the online multiplayer experience, as well as planning for Update II,” the patch notes read. Aspyr’s efforts to fix server issues are ongoing, meaning they will be rolled out as soon as they’re ready regardless of the regular update schedule.

The Classic Collection has a myriad of server issues and bugs, but at least it looks pretty, I guess?

The patch addresses a plethora of bugs, including visual bugs, audio bugs, a couple of minor multiplayer bugs and interestingly, a rebalance of Asajj Ventress’ abilities. There’s also a section entitled “Other Notable Bug Fixes,” that addresses bugs that don’t fit into other categories. You can read the full patch notes here.

A Rocky Start

Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection currently holds an ‘Overwhelmingly Negative’ review score on Steam. According to the platform’s review classification system, 81% of the game’s 5900 reviews are considered negative.

A large amount of this criticism stems from server capacity issues, where at launch, there were only 192 server slots for the 20,000 players who attempted to play on launch night. Reviewers highlighted other server issues like “terrible hit registration,” “awful netcode” and “terrible ping.”

Social media posts about the console versions of the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection don’t paint a prettier picture, with players complaining about “a complete lack of aim assist,” multiplayer rounds that only last two or three minutes and missing campaign cutscenes.

According to Steam Charts, Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is averaging about 400 players on Steam, an expected drop-off from a peak of 6,000 or so around launch time.

A lot of reviewers claim to have refunded the game; it appears it will be a long road back for Aspyr to recapture the player base they could have had, if the remaster had been polished.
