Return To Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head Movie Debut “Looks Like An Action Figure”

Highlights

  • Christophe Gans returns to Silent Hill with “Return to Silent Hill” doing a live-action adaptation of Silent Hill 2 with James as the lead.
  • The first look photo of Pyramid Head has received criticism for looking more like an action figure than a live-action character.
  • Despite some concerns with the design of Pyramid Head, many fans are excited about the upcoming adaptation of Silent Hill 2 in “Return to Silent Hill.”

Christophe Gans brought Konami’s horror anthology to life in live-action back in 2006 with Silent Hill, starring Radha Mitchell, Laurie Holden, and Sean Bean. The debut film became somewhat of a cult classic and paved the way for a sequel six years later in 3D format, but it failed to impress the fandom. Over ten years later, Gans is returning to the franchise with Return to Silent Hill, but the debut of Pyramid Head has caused some confusion.

After previewing a rough cut at Cannes Film Festival, Variety shared a first-look exclusive photo of the iconic antagonist from Return to Silent Hill. The third film in the movie series will be based on Silent Hill 2 and follow Jeremy Irvine as James with a release window set for 2024. Despite Pyramid Head returning to the silver screen, the Silent Hill fandom thought there was something off in the monster’s design.

Silent Hill 2 Fans Aren’t Happy With Bloober’s New Remake Trailer

Fans have called the upcoming remake of Silent Hill 2 “rough” and “stiff” after seeing the latest trailer.

Return To Silent Hill’s Pyramid Head Looks A Little Plastic

The image in question showed Pyramid Head standing in a grungy hallway behind a set of bent bars, holding its Great Knife weapon in one hand. The triangular helmet features a slightly different design with a nail-infested slit running down the middle of the enclosure, but that wasn’t an issue for fans who noticed a more glaring issue.

Several onlookers commented that the first-look photo, which was meant to be flaunting a live-action Pyramid Head, looked more like a photograph of an action figure. It’s a fairly accurate observation, as the arms of the villain seem to have articulated joints, and the texture of the character’s helmet and the environment look strangely plastic.

Comments rolled in accusing the shot of being a “Neca figure” including one onlooker who asked, “this a little claymation figure or what?”. Another fan stated “Is it just me or does this look like a Gecco statue”, and a third comment asked, “why does this image look like a photo of a statue” and got a response trying to justify the off texture saying, “I guess the skin being so dried up and cracked gives that impression.”

Hopefully Pyramid Head looks a little more realistic within the first trailer for Return to Silent Hill, but some fans also had a thing or two to say about the villain’s design, saying “If you’re adapting [Silent Hill 2’s] story you gotta be accurate which this isn’t”, referring to the monster’s design, but as with any adaptation, liberties can often be taken.

Luckily, a majority of the Silent Hill community was excited to see the latest adaptation, saying “I had no idea this was being made but YES! I’m so excited…”
