Report Suggests Less Than 3,000 People Have Purchased Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s iPhone Port

Highlights

  • Mobile ports of major titles like Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Resident Evil are financially underperforming on iPhone and iPad devices.
  • Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Resident Evil 4 had low full-game purchase rates despite being downloaded hundreds of thousands of times.
  • Estimates from different data firms show varied revenue figures, but overall, these mobile ports are not meeting financial expectations.

According to a new report from Mobilegamer.biz, iPhone and iPad ports of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4, and Death Stranding have all failed financially. It is said that Assassin’s Creed Mirage has sold less than 3,000 copies of the full game.

Mirage can be downloaded for free on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and high-end iPad devices, but users can only access a small section of the game before they are required to pay $49.99 to unlock the full game. According to Mobilegamer’s analysis, Mirage has been downloaded a total of 123,000 times, but only managed to generate approximately $138,000 in gross revenue, meaning only 3,000 users went on to purchase the full game.

No One Cares About Assassin’s Creed Mirage, And That’s Bad For Gaming

I guess you could say Ubisoft’s claims about the game’s success are something of… a mirage.

Mobile ports of these critically acclaimed triple-a titles were announced during an Apple Keynote event last year, with Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Village being the first major titles to be released on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, followed by Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Death Stranding earlier this year.

Unfortunately, none of the aforementioned titles appear to be doing that well, with speculation that Apple is paying for these ports merely to show off the capabilities of their devices.

It’s estimated that Resident Evil 4 has been downloaded approximately 357,000 times, but only managed to generate $208,000 in gross revenue. Again, similar to Assassin’s Creed Mirage, players can download a free trial before purchasing the full game, which means a very small percentage of users are going on to buy the full game. This means that roughly 7,000 people have purchased the full version of Resident Evil 4 since its release.

Resident Evil Village has reportedly performed even worse, with more downloads (370,000) but less revenue generated from full-game purchases ($92,000). As for Death Stranding – which was ported by 505 Games, who also handled the PC version of the game – it is estimated to have generated $212,000 in revenue with approximately 10,600 downloads.

It’s worth noting that all of the above figures are merely estimates generated by data firm Appfigures, but Mobilegamer.biz also includes estimates from another data firm known as Appmagic, which has more “optimistic” numbers for the mobile ports.

According to Appmagic’s estimates, Assassin’s Creed Mirage may have generated $221,000 in revenue from a total of 279,000 downloads, while Resident Evil 4 has been downloaded over 700,000 times and earned around $347,000 in revenue. Resident Evil Village is estimated to have been downloaded 817,000 times and generated $420,000 in revenue, while Death Stranding has been downloaded 23,000 times and accumulated $348,000 in revenue.

While these figures make the ports more successful than Appfigures’ estimates, Appmagic’s head of content Andrei Zubov told the site that the figures are “far from a success.” He then went on to say, “This suggests that these games have already captured a big part of their potential revenue and will now sustain much lower earnings.”

I’d quite happily sink another few hundred hours into another Assassin’s Creed game.
