Mortal Kombat 1’s Nintendo Switch port is once again being mocked by the community, this time following the release of Homelander earlier this week.

Mortal Kombat 1 was released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in September 2023. While the latest entry in the Mortal Kombat series did not move to Unreal Engine 5 with its release, it’s still a visually stunning game…unless you’re on the Nintendo Switch. Yes, for those who might be living under a rock, Mortal Kombat 1 was also released on the Switch, and it’s not great.

Mortal Kombat 1’s Homelander Accused Of Copying Injustice’s Superman Moves

Both The Boys’ Homelander and DC’s Superman have similar powers, but Mortal Kombat 1 fans wanted more originality.

We broke down the Mortal Kombat 1 and Nintendo Switch controversy when it was released last year, explaining how the community was angry at the same $70 price tag for the Switch version, despite it being incredibly diminished in terms of quality.

It is worth noting that the Nintendo Switch version of Mortal Kombat 1 was developed by Shiver Entertainment and Saber Interactive, as opposed to the QLOC who developed the PC version and NetherRealm who developed the current-gen console version. NetherRealm does, however, state that “all versions of Mortal Kombat 1 were built on NetherRealm Studios technology with oversight by NetherRealm.”

The game itself received positive reviews at launch and has held a steady player base, but the game is once again being mocked by the community following the release of Homelander earlier this week.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), a post by PMS Jordan mocking the Nintendo Switch version of Homelander has been viewed over 4.5 million times and has over 86,000 likes at the time of writing. “Dear LORD! Look at what the Nintendo Switch did to my boy,” the user mocked, before showing a comparison of Homelander on current-gen consoles, PC, and Nintendo Switch.

While the current-gen consoles and PC versions of Homelander look nearly identical, there’s a stark difference on the Switch version. Less detail and texture make for one horrifying Homelander, check it out for yourself below.

The user then continued by saying that the next Nintendo console is “still desperately needed” as the Nintendo Switch needs to be “laid to rest.”

While there are no current details on what Nintendo’s next console will be, the company’s president took to X earlier this year to confirm that there would be an announcement regarding the Nintendo Switch successor “within this fiscal year.” It was then noted that a Nintendo Direct would be held in June, but that there would be mention of the company’s upcoming console during the presentation.
