Jumpscares dominate the horror genre in movies and video games, and a few millennials are still scared for life after being subjected to the “Relaxing Car Drive” video 18 years ago. A handful of terrifying games to utilize this technique include Outlast, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and a little franchise called Five Nights at Freddy’s.

The grand strategy wargame, Hearts of Iron 4, was the last place anybody expected Freddy Fazbear to appear, especially not within a mod created for Paradox Development’s fourth installment in the main series that puts your “strategic abilities and political insight” to the test. It’s a combination of genres gamers never imagined uniting, but this unique mod is proving to be handy for trolls.

Five Nights At Hearts Of Iron IV Is Taking Years Off Players’ Lives

Titled the “Five Nights at Hearts of Iron IV” mod by Krumtum, this add-in was created with the intent of making Hearts of Iron 4 scarier for strategists. In a nutshell, the mod includes jumpscares of different characters from the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise, including clips from the first game right through to the 2016 release of Sister Location – check out our ranking of every game in the FNAF series to see if your pick is number one.

Every day, players have a 1% chance of encountering a FNAF jumpscare during gameplay, and Steam users reckoned this mod would be the “perfect solution to troll people”. Located on the mod’s Steam page, a user recommended making a collection of quality of life mods to discreetly add the FNAF mod, which would more than likely go unnoticed in the list. If you know any friends or family members that indulge in Hearts of Iron 4, now you have the perfect prank in place.

Other comments on Steam came from users who had forgotten they had downloaded the mod, and therefore, got the fright of their lives (to put it politely) when the jumpscare occurred. One user thanked the modder for finally putting an end to their hiccups, and a final comment suggested an idea to make this mod a response for when somebody declares war on you. Speaking of comments, the Hearts of Iron 4 developer managed to get in hot water over a “childish comment” left in response to a negative review recently.

If you’d like to try the “Five Nights at Hearts of Iron IV” mod for yourself, or use it to prank a friend, you can currently download the content from Steam.
