Updated On December 11th 2023 By Joshua Leeds: While no new information has been made about season 3, we have gotten conformation that season 3 is still being worked on and is getting closer to an announcement. This article has been updated to include additional links for the show for those looking to refresh their knowlegde on the world before the next season is announced.
Is Season 3 Happening?
During a panel at Comic-Con, creator and DM Matthew Mercer talked about the scale of the Chroma Conclave arc and how difficult it would be to fit it all into one season of just twelve episodes. He then announced that season 3 had been greenlit and would continue the Chroma Conclave’s arc. As of now, Vox Machina has only killed two of the five dragons making up the Conclave, meaning season 3 will be action-packed as they try to close out this arc.
No official trailer has been released or announced for season 3. Both season 1 and season 2 were released in 2022 and 2023, respectively, leading us to guess season 3 will release sometime early next year. As the source material already exists for this show, the original campaign consists of many side stories that may be front and center in season 3, possibly expanding this arc into season 4.

The Future Of The Legends Of Vox Machina
The Legend Of Vox Machina is the animated version of the story of campaign 1 of Critical Role. The entire story has already been told, and this animation is an adaptation that has also been condensed a bit to appeal to a broader audience. Cast member Sam Riegel has talked about the possibility of this show running for possibly five seasons. As the Chromo Conclave is a long arc, it is not the last, with many stories to be told after should this arc wraps up with season 3. While the Chroma Conclave is a massive threat to the land of Tal’Dorei, a more significant, more sinister threat has still yet to be shown that will most likely take another two seasons to cover.
While we are still not at the halfway point of The Legends of Vox Machina’s source material, Critical Role has already announced they have begun work on another animated series now retelling the events of the second campaign following the Mighty Nein. While further details on that show are still to be seen, Critical Role is currently in the middle of its third campaign and, judging by its current trend, will probably have its own animated adaptation in the future.
