How To Unlock Skills

Skills are inherently tied to the Vocation you choose. Each time you level up your Vocation, you’ll gain access to a new skill or two, or possibly even an upgraded version of a prior skill. But to actually unlock the skills themselves, you’ll first need to visit a Vocation Guild.

The first Vocation Guild you find will be in Melve, where the innkeeper is also the functioning guild representative. In most larger cities, however, the Vocation Guild will be a separate building, often connected to the main inn like the one in Vernworth.

Once you speak to the Guild representative, simply choose Acquire/Equip Skills to purchase new ones and assign them to the corresponding button maps. Each skill purchase costs a certain amount of Dcp, which is something you earn from killing enemies in the game. If you are ever running low on Dcp and want to earn it as fast as possible, check out our full guide on How To Get Dcp.

How To Unlock Skills (Late-Game)

Dragon's Dogma 2 - Warfarer Vocation

As you might imagine, unlocking all of the skills for each of the 10 Vocations available in the game would require a lot of time and effort if you were to do them one by one. Although Dragon’s Dogma 2 does encourage you to switch Vocations regularly, you can rest assured that you do not need to individually master them all in order to unlock every skill available in the game.

After you reach Battahl and traverse to the late-game Volcanic Island area, you’ll be able to unlock the Warfarer Vocation by completing a mini-quest for Lamond. This Vocation is essentially all Vocations in one, allowing you to easily switch between as many Vocations as you want on the fly, while also utilizing a combination of 3 total weapon skills from the Vocations of your choosing. While you run around as the Warfarer Vocation, you’ll automatically level up all Vocations as you gain experience. This is true whether you have said Vocation equipped or not. Simply gain experience, and you’ll watch the remaining Vocations level up unlocking access to the full repertoire of skills available.

Skill Types Explained

Dragons Dogma 2 Master Skill

There are in fact, three different types of skills to be aware of in the game: Weapon Skills, Core Skills, and Augments. Each category is specific to the Vocation you choose and each type of skill works a bit differently.

Weapon Skills

Dragons Dogma 2 Weapon Skills

Weapon Skills are the ones you will be most aware of as they affect how you can attack enemies. There are typically around 10 weapon skills for each Vocation, and most of them have an upgraded version you can acquire as well. However, you can only have four equipped at a time since they essentially function as special moves. Be sure to swap them out regularly to find the ones you like the most and the combinations that best fit the challenge you are facing.

Core Skills

Dragons Dogma 2 Core Skills

You can think of Core Skills as passive skills. These skills enhance your core moves, adding different effects to them or modifying your basic attack types. Although these skills aren’t as obvious, they are all very helpful. You can also equip all of them at once as they do not take up one of the four skill slots like the weapon skills do.

Augments

Dragons Dogma 2 Augments

Augments function a lot like the Core Skills in that they are passive boosts to your overall stats. Some will provide more stamina overall, others make it harder to detect you, and there are even some that will make it so you get more gold with each find.

Unlike Core Skills, you can only have 6 augments selected at any given time. But, the Augments you unlock from each Vocation you try will carry over. This is a feature completely unique to Augments and essentially allows you to stack your favorite passive benefits from multiple Vocations at a time. It is highly encouraged that you try multiple Vocations out throughout your playthrough, and with the added benefits of transferrable Augments, there is no better reason not to try them all.
