Into the Light has also introduced a brand-new social space called Hall of Champions where you can acquire all the new weapons and armor sets and Bounties that you can pick up before you start running Onslaught activity.

What Is Onslaught?

Onslaught, Destiny 2, Into The Light

Onslaught is a brand-new three-player activity that is inspired by Horde modes in other games. In Onslaught, you, along with your other two members, fight against waves of enemy types, which include the Fallen as well as the Hive.

Onslaught features waves that either reach a maximum of 10 waves (if you are running Onslaught from Playlist) or 50 waves if you are properly selecting Onslaught from the directory. After every 5 waves, you also go to a Darkness pyramid ship where you fight the forces of The Witness.

Onslaught Difficulties

Onslaught Difficulties, Destiny 2, Into The Light

Onslaught is available on Normal as well as Legend difficulty. If you are running on Normal difficulty you will start the first wave with your enemy combatants having the same power level as you. Then after every 10 waves, the power level of enemies will increase by 4. Therefore, when you reach level 40, you will be 20 power levels below the enemy combatants. On Legend difficulty, things get extremely challenging. You start with 10 power levels below your enemies, and after every 10 waves, the power level of enemies further increases by 5 effectively making the difficulty of Legend Onslaught comparable to that of Grandmaster Nightfalls.

There is also a modifier after certain waves called Restrict, which causes every member of your team to die; the activity ends and you return to orbit. There are also Overload, Unstoppable, and Barrier champions in Onslaught.

Onslaught Objectives

Onslaught is currently present on three maps: Midtown on Earth, Vostok, and Mothyards on Cosmodrome. The main objective is to defend the ADU (Advanced Defense Unit) against the wave of enemies. The ADU has a health meter above it and when an enemy damages it, it gets lower. However, you can restore the health of ADU by throwing batteries at it which drops from glowing enemy combatants. Along with defending the ADU, the other main objective is to defeat a boss present in the pyramid ship after every 10 waves. There are also some bonus objectives which upon completion give extra rewards.

Scrap and Defenses

Since Onslaught is a Horde mode, there are also defense options that you can purchase. There is a currency in Onslaught called Scrap and you can obtain it by defeating enemies and completing waves. Scraps are then used to buy and upgrade defenses.

There are three types of defenses in Onslaught:

  • Turrets that shoot enemy combatants.
  • Decoys that take away enemy aggression from you.
  • Trip wires that damage enemies that pass through it.

All these defenses can be upgraded to level 3, with upgrades costing significantly more Scraps. Scraps that you earn as a team go to each person individually and your fireteam is not using the same pool of Scraps.

The Normal Waves

Normal Waves, Destiny 2, Into The Light

Onslaught features a set of waves, with each set comprising 10 waves, a mid-pyramid section, and a boss fight. Each wave comprises enemies spawning in from different directions that you will need to hold off.

There are also random bonus challenges that will appear when you are completing waves as a way to shake things up and if you are successful it will reward you with an ammo box. There are various bonus challenges like:

  • Capture Pyramid Zones: There will be pyramid zones throughout the map that you will need to stand on and capture before the timer runs out.
  • Signal Disruption: Pyramid splinters will spawn in the air you need to find and destroy.
  • Speed Wave: Speed Wave will require you to defeat all the combatants of the wave within a certain time.
  • Relic Collection: You will need to collect 20 relics, with each dead enemy dropping one relic.

Offensive Wave

For every “6th” wave of the set, i.e., waves 6, 16, 26, 36, and 46, a portal will open up near the ADU and you will have to take the fight to The Witness on the pyramid ship. Here you will need to defeat enemy combatants. In the first room, you will simply need to defeat every combatant.

Then you will proceed to the second room where you will be required to defeat Sparkholders. There will be three Sparkholders in the room as well as some minor enemies. As soon as you defeat all three of the Sparkholders, a Spark will spawn that one of your fireteam members can grab.

Now a door will open that will lead into the hall. At the end of the hall, you will see a rift where the person holding the Spark will need to dunk it. However, you will need to be careful as small enemies will spawn and there will also be a boss that you will need to avoid as he is immune to any damage. Once you deposit the spark you will return to the original arena and the ADU.

Augments

Augment, Destiny 2, Into The Light

Augments are similar to bonus objectives and can appear randomly, but unlike bonus objectives, they are mandatory to complete. If you don’t complete them, it will result in the death of your fireteam. It also includes objectives like defeating certain Skybombers or diffusing mines.

Boss Wave

At the end of each set of waves, a new portal will open that will teleport you again to the pyramid ship. However, there will be no extra objectives. Intstead, you will just get a rally flag and then you will enter the boss arena.

The Boss wave is pretty simple where you have to avoid dying and kill the boss. There will also be certain types of shielded enemies, and if you kill them your damage to the boss will increase. This is the entire loop of a set and it repeats 5 times if you are doing all 50 waves of Onslaught.

Heatwave

Heatwave, Destiny 2, Into The Light

After completing each 10 set in Heatwave and defeating the boss, there is a random chance that you get a bonus round called Heatwave. It is similar to the Lightning Round in Dares of Eternity and allows you to earn extra Trophies of Bravery.

Once Heatwave activates, your Super and ability regeneration is massively improved and a lot of Tormentors spawn in the boss arena. You will have a time limit in which you will need to kill as many Tormentors as possible without dying. Each Tormentor you kill will reward you with a Trophy of Bravery.
