The Spear Of Night is a unique weapon that players will need at the end of the Gauntlet Of Shar, here’s how to get it in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Party members back at camp also receive the same amount of XP as everyone else, having them be at the same level and ready to join in at any point. With companions being so important to the game, is it possible to recruit all of them in a single playthrough?

Updated On December 27th, 2023 By Joshua Leeds: As of Patch 5, it is possible to recruit Minthara in a good playthrough, letting players get every companion in a single playthrough. This article has been updated to include this information along with a link on how to properly recruit her.

Can You Recruit Every Companion

Baldur's Gate 3 Minthara Neutral Expression

In total, there are ten possible companions for players to recruit throughout a playthrough. For most of the companions found and recruited in Act 1, they won’t overlap and close out recruiting others, with the worst effects being one character’s relationship status lowering depending on who is recruited. Despite it seeming like Wyll and Karlach can’t be recruited in the same playthrough, players are able to talk their way through the situation to make Wyll ignore his mission to kill her and recruit both characters.

The main problem character is Minthara, who will lock the player out of multiple other companions if they choose to recruit her. Recruiting Minthara will lock out Halsin and have Wyll and Karlach either leave or be locked out if she is recruited. Proceeding to save the Druids and Tieflings in Act 1 will save Halsin and make him a recruitable character, but will require players to kill Minthara.

Later in Act 2, players will be given the choice for Jaheira to join the party. She will need to be recruited in order to recruit Minsc later in Act 3, so it’s important to not only recruit her but also keep her alive.

The Minthara Problem

With Patch 5, there does seem to be a way to recruit Minthara in the same playthrough as Halsin; without the need for going full evil in Act 1. To do so, players will need to knock Minthara unconscious and later find her at the Moonrise Tower in Act 2. It’s possible this gets patched in the future, but as of Patch 5 it is the only way to get every companion in one playthrough.

How To Recruit The Most Companions

Baldur's Gate 3 Stonelord Minsc

While it’s impossible to recruit all companions in a single playthrough, it is possible to get nine of the ten in a single playthrough, letting players experience almost every side story. Doing so is fairly simple; players should find and recruit all the origin characters in Act 1 and side with the Druids to defeat the Goblin Camp and Minthara. In Act 2, be sure to complete Halsin’s personal quest to make him an actual party member in Act 3, along with saving Jaheira and adding her to the party too. Finally, in Act 3, follow Jaheira’s personal path to meet and recruit Minsc to have nine out of ten potential party members.
